Let's talk about safety

ALL Great Plains Youth Football Coaches are USA Football Certified on the following player safety topics:

Health & Safety - Head, Heart, Heat & Emergency Action Planning
Abuse Prevention
Foundations of Transformational Coaching
Foundations of Quality Coaching
Principles of Contact - Featuring Shoulder Tackling, Blocking & Defeating Blocks, Equipment Fitting and Levels of Contact

Tackle Football Players move slower and are better protected than Flag Football Players due to the protective equipment they are wearing. We will establish a framework for safety that will carry over into Junior High and High School.

Schedule

We will play 7 games in the GPYFL against schools like Wahoo, DC West, Arlington, Ashland, Logan View and others. The complete list can be found here: Program Member Info
We will play home games at Yutan High School
Practices should begin the last week of July (7/28)
The first games are expected to be the weekend of August 16th
After the first two weeks games, we should have Labor Day weekend off and then return to the gridiron for a 3 week stretch to finish the regular season.
The final two weeks are "playoff" games against similarly skilled teams which should conclude the season around October 5th.

Practices

We hope to practice in the outfield of Itan Field on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm - 8pm
The Pee Wee and Jr. Midget teams will practice at the same time which allows us to leverage the coaching we have available
There will be no contact drills or scrimmaging between the teams
In the event our game is scheduled for Sunday, we will hold a one-hour walk-through practice on Saturday morning
There are 22 practices, 7 games and up to 7 walk-throughs on the tentative schedule
We expect each athlete to understand the importance of practice and the dedication it requires towards achieving our goals.
